New EPA regulations went into effect on April 22, 2010,
governing repair, remodeling and painting contractors who perform work on homes
built before 1978.
Because of the potential presence of lead-based paint in
homes built before 1978, the EPA took broad measures to protect both workers
and occupants from the dangers of lead dust resulting from work that disturbs
painted surfaces. Among those measures, the regulations require:
